What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone, where it acts as an artificial tooth root. Once it has healed, it supports a crown, a bridge or a denture, giving you a stable, secure replacement for missing teeth.
We work with specialized teams on the implant process, so your care is coordinated every step of the way. Many people choose implants after exploring other options because they want a more permanent result.
Why people choose implants
Chew with confidence
Implants restore chewing strength and stability.
Stays in place
An implant doesn’t shift the way a removable denture can.
Protects your jawbone
An implant helps maintain the bone that can shrink after a tooth is lost.
Looks natural
Implants are designed to look and feel like your own teeth and support facial balance.
How treatment works
- Consultation and planning. We look at your teeth, gums, bite and bone, take the X-rays and digital scans we need, and talk through your options, including alternatives such as bridges or dentures.
- Getting your mouth ready. If a cavity, gum concern or other problem needs attention first, we treat it so your implant starts on a healthy foundation.
- Placing the implant. The implant is placed in the jawbone, then given time to heal and bond with the bone, usually a few months. We coordinate this step with the specialized team involved in your care.
- Your new tooth. Once the implant has healed, it’s fitted with a crown, bridge or denture shaped to match your smile.
- Looking after it. Brush, floss and keep up your regular checkups. Healthy gums and neighbouring teeth are key to an implant’s long-term success.
Cost and insurance
- A clear estimate first. Every case is different, so we’ll explain the cost of your treatment plan before anything starts.
- Insurance. We can send a predetermination to your insurer, so you know what your plan covers before you decide.
- Your options. If you’d like to compare, we’ll talk through alternatives such as bridges or dentures and what each involves.
Protecting your implant
Clenching or grinding can put extra stress on implants and crowns. If we see signs of it, we may suggest a TMJ assessment and a custom night guard to help your implant last.
